Tangled

This movie begins with the King and queen of Corona who are expecting a child and while in labor the queen is dying. The towns people took to the streets looking for a miracle. We are then introduced to mother Gothel who harbors a miracle from the sun and is the only thing that could heal the queen. What is this beautiful treasure mother Gothel hides away you may ask. It’s a magic golden flower that contains great power. Mother Gothel used this flower to keep herself young and beautiful for many years but to activate the flowers power you must sing a certain song. One day the magic golden flower was spotted by the soldiers and they immediately removed it from the ground to heal the queen. Mother Gothel saw them take the flower.  Princess Rapunzel was born and the kingdom rejoiced. Mother Gothel appeared one night at the castle trying to absorb the power from little Rapunzel’s golden hair but realized the hair lost its power once it’s been cut. Mother Gothel decided to kidnap young Rapunzel and raise her as her own child. Mother Gothel kept Rapunzel hidden for many years in a tall tower within the forest until one day a troubled man decides to climb into it. Only then does Rapunzel escape the tower and disobey her mother. Rapunzel explores the outside world with a deceiving individual who causes her to face danger in almost every part of her journey to follow her dream. This journey exposes secrets and dreams. This movie includes uplifting songs, laughter, and an unintended romance.

The Hidden Messages

Hope: Rapunzel had hoped to see her the lanterns on her birthday.

Selfishness: Mother Gothel displayed this when she kidnapped Rapunzel and forced her to never leave the tower. Mother Gothel is self absorbed and is obsessed with her looks and doesn’t give anyone else a thought. Flynn Rider was also selfish to steal the princesses crown and deceive his evil partners. Flynn Ride is obsessed with the idea of being rich and famous and only thinks about himself until he spends more time with Rapunzel.

Follow Your dreams: Throughout the movie Rapunzel continuously talks about her dream to see the floating lanterns on her birthday. Rapunzel then encourages others to share their dreams. The Snuggley Duckling thugs share their dreams with Rapunzel of finding love, playing music, making ceramic unicorns, cupcakes, sew/knit, be an interior designer or florist. Flynn Riders dream was to be rich and own his own island until the end of the movie he changes his dream.

Loyalty: Rapunzel made a promise to Flynn Rider if he would take her to see the lanterns in exchange for the princess crown. Pascal was loyal to Rapunzel, he was by her side for 18 years and continues to look after her and be her best friend. Rapunzel was loyal to mother Gothel for 18 years doing what she asked of her.

This movie is filled with laughter and music. It’s heavily concentrated on following your dreams and taking chances. Tangled is a movie for the entire family. This movie is similar to another movie created by Walt Disney that features a young princess who was given magical gifts by fairies. They were dedicated to running away with the child after an evil witch named Maleficent, cast a curse on the young princess out of hatred for the kingdom. Just like Rapunzel this princess was locked away in the home never to be seen by another person until the curse passed. This princess was quite the singer too. This movie is called Sleeping beauty.
